3 Day Wine Tour Impressions

After a spending a couple of enjoyable weeks overseas it was still fantastic to return home to Cape Town. You only really appreciate the Mother City once you have been away for a while. Well, it was back to work and running wine tours in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.

Most of our clients have a limited amount of time to spend in our wonderful country, so they tend to only have 1 day set aside to do the Winelands. But every so often the lucky few have more time on their hands and request a 3 or 5 day wine tour. As was the case last week. Clients from Malaysia requested a 3 day wine excursion with the emphasis been on good wine and stunning scenery.

Well, that was the easy part as there are so many amazing estates to choose from. We used Franschhoek as our overnight base and visited various farms in and around Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl.

Fortunately the weather played along and my clients were absolutely blown away by the beauty of some of the estates that we visited.

I have been familiar with the wines from Stark Conde for quite some time and I’m a huge fan of their Cabernet Sauvignons. But I only recently stumbled upon their estate in the Jonkershoek Valley, and please believe me when I say that this is without a doubt one of the most spectacular estates that you will ever visit anywhere in the world!

The tasting room is situated in the middle of a small dam and we were lucky enough to have a wine tasting presented by Jose Conde, the wine maker and owner of this magnificent property.

Another highlight was the chocolate and wine pairing that we had at the Waterford Estate, in Stellenbosch. The whole experience was fantastic and the Kevin Arnold Shiraz is brilliant. This is a seriously impressive estate and my one client remarked that it was as if she had died and gone to heaven. Two hours and a hundred pictures later I eventually managed to drag them out of the place.

Coupled with visits to Tokara, Boekenhoutskloof, Dieu Donne and De Grendel, the tour was more than our Malaysian friends could have ever wished for.
